Trigger Point Injections in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA

Trigger point injections at Maasumi Headache & Spine Care to return to a life free from pain.

Trigger Point Treatment to Soothe Stiff and Painful Muscles

Trigger points are discrete, irritable spots located in a taut band of our skeletal muscle. They form as tight bands or knots when our muscles refuse to relax after a contraction, causing muscle spasms and pain. Trigger-point injuries develop in the upper back and shoulder muscles due to excessive strain on the muscles, acute injuries, or long-term muscular disorders. These injuries irritate the adjacent nerves, causing pain to radiate to the nearby areas. This is where our trigger point injections (TPI) can help.

At Maasumi Headache & Spine Care, we offer TPI injections in Santa Margarita to help you overcome both your acute and chronic pain and inflammation, regaining your optimal health and wellness. These injections contain a blend of anesthetic, steroid, or a combination of both to alleviate your pain and enhance your range of motion and functionality. So, you can actively take part in all such activities without having to worry about your pain.

What Happens During the Trigger Point Injection Procedure?

You can expect the following upon your arrival at Maasumi Headache & Spine Care for a trigger point injection:

  • We may ask you to sit or lie down on an exam table depending on which trigger point needs to be treated.
  • We will thoroughly clean the trigger point and pinch the area to stabilize the tissue. This may be quite uncomfortable.
  • After that, we will insert a thin needle into the trigger point and continue needling the area with repeated insertions and retractions without completely withdrawing the needle from your muscle or skin.
  • You will feel that your muscle twitches or cramps and we will continue needling the area in multiple directions until your muscle is relaxed or cramping or twitching is stopped.
  • We will then inject the area with a local anesthetic with or without corticosteroid or Botulinum toxin.
  • Once the medication is injected, we will remove the needle.
  • We will send you home shortly after the procedure, as it involves no downtime.
